As Monday night turned into early Tuesday morning, Melbourne local Dory Zayner made history by winning the first ever PokerNews Cup.
Dory defeated a field of 428 players over three days of play that included many internationals, and a host of Australian professional superstars such as Joe Hachem, Tony G and Jeff Lisandro.
Despite the huge international contingent that composed over a quarter of the field, it was Australian players that dominated the final table. Seven of the eight final table contenders were from either Sydney or Melbourne, the lone exception being student Jordan Lamberg from New York.
With wife Melissa watching on, Dory played a solid game to get heads up with Sydneysider Kenny Ng to eventually win the $300,000 first prize.
We wish Dory and his family the best of luck and congratulate him on his win.
